This website contains my Teaching Philosophy, several college level English syllabi, and high school lesson plans in ESL and English. It also contains my qualifications listed in my resume.

This site has been prepared by me to promote my skills and abilities with respect to employment in the areas in which I am endorsed on my teaching licenses. I would be pleased to work in a college or middle or high school setting teaching English, Rhetoric and Composition, ELA, ESL K-12, or Orchestra or Band 5-12, as I am licensed to teach in these areas.

In addition, I have done research involving pedagogy and assessment in the above teaching areas (other than music teaching), and these research proposals are also included in the portfolio.

About Me
Natalie Johnson, MA, MSED recently completed a Masters’ Program in English Teaching Secondary from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH (December, 2019). She also holds a Master of Arts in English Language Learners through Western Governors' University, Salt Lake City, UT. She recently began pursuing the Specialized Certificate in Online Teaching through the University of California, San Diego Extension Program. She also recently obtained Qualified Teacher Status to teach in the United Kingdom in the areas of English Studies and Music Education.

She has taught middle and high school English and ESL students from elementary through adult. In addition, her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education/Instrumental allows her to continue to teach private violin, flute and piano lessons online and in the community. Her teaching interests are in curriculum design and pedagogical research. She also enjoys her family, the arts, playing violin in a local symphony, playing flute in a local concert band, teaching private music lessons, nature walks with friends, her two cats, travel, food preparation and dining.

Education

I have Master of Arts degrees in English Teaching Secondary, and in English Language Learners. I also have a Master of Science in Education in Reading. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education with over 200 semester hours in performance on violin, flute, ensemble playing, and choral. I recently obtained Qualified Teacher Status in the UK in English Studies and Music Education. This status is ongoing and is not subject to further educational or teaching experiences to maintain the certification. In addition, I have a Cambridge UK CELTA for teaching adult ESL, and am working on completing an Online Teaching Certificate program through UC-San Diego.

Experience

An outline of my work experience In addition to several years of teaching English, English as a Second Language, and Instrumental Music, and substitute teaching, I have taught private music lessons on violin, flute and piano for over 15 years in ND, WA State, and Minnesota I was employed at the University of Minnesota in educational departments working with faculty and staff approximately nine years over 20 years ago. I have also worked with State and Federal Family Assistance Programs as a case worker. I recently had the opportunity to work as a Local Coordinator for International Cultural Exchange Services, bringing students from abroad to live and study in area high schools.
